Thursday, April 9, 1:30-3pm at PRTT in Manhattan – 52 high school students from Connecticut see BETSY.

Friday-Saturday, April 10, 6:45pm through April 11, 4pm in Manhattan [At capacity]Imagining America Institute about BETSY!, the latest co-creation of Appalshop’s Roadside Theater and Pregones Theater. Sixty faculty and staff, high school and college students, and community artists will be attending from institutions and communities including: Ohio State; Cornell University; Oregon State; University of Wisconsin; and Loisaida Center.

Sunday, April 12, 3-5:30pm at PRTT in Manhattan – Appel Farm Arts & Music Center in Salem County, NJ is bringing 76 diverse community members to see BETSY!. The post-show exchange with the artists is open to all audience members.

Monday, April 13, 2:10-3:15pm, at Pregones Theater in the Bronx – Students from Hostos Community College learn about the collaboration between Roadside Theater and Pregones Theater.

Tuesday, April 14, 6-7:15pm in Manhattan – Dudley Cocke and Rosalba Rolón on a panel for 60 Syracuse University students.

Wednesday, April 15, 10:30am at PRTT in Manhattan – BETSY! performance for young people.

Thursday, April 16, 8-10pm at PRTT in Manhattan – BETSY! performance and post-show reception with National Alliance of Latino Artists.

Friday, April 17, 8-10pm at PRTT in Manhattan – BETSY! performance and brief post-show chat with students from Hostos, New York University, and Virginia Tech.

Saturday, April 18, 2-5pm in Manhattan [At capacity] – A national dialogue about integrating live theater with digital documentation, convened by Public: A Journal of Imagining America . Participants include Roadside Theater, Pregones Theater, Alternate ROOTS, HowlRound, ArtPlace, Virginia Tech, Liz Lerman, and others.

Sunday, April 19, 10am-1pm at PRTT in Manhattan – An open meeting of the BETSY! Scholars Circle looking to champion the role of the artist and the artistic experience in the production and circulation of knowledge.

Thursday, April 23, 2-4:45pm in Manhattan – Dudley Cocke and Elise Santora speaking at New York University.

Tuesday, April 21 in Ithaca, NY – An Imagining America seminar about how artists working in low-income communities make a living from their work, and how arts organizations can serve low-income communities that wish to tap their rich cultural assets for economic development. Those involved include Dudley Cocke of Appalshop and Roadside Theater in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and his research partner Gladstone “Fluney” Hutchinson, an economist at Lafayette University; Ted Alter and Bruce Balfour, two development scholars from the University of Pennsylvania; Civic Ensemble; and ArtPlace. The time is ripe for bringing Cornell’s attention to community cultural development given its new campus-wide Engaged Cornell Initiative, a 10-year, $150 million investment in engaged learning.
